What a great day at Isla Blanca Kite Camp!!!
PDC Kiteboarding took Joel & Mike from Canada for a full day excursion to Isla Blanca Lagoon where they could achieve their IKO Level 3 certification and have a blast!!!!
Isla Blanca is about 1 hour and 20 minutes north of Playa del Carmen, just passing Cancun!
Arriving around 9am, the wind was about 15/17 knots, then slowly got stronger to end up being around 25 knots at the end of the day.
The Eclipse Nano 9m did the job for the whole day!
Also Joseph could finally try his brand new toy....the Wainman Hawaii Smoke 9m and get some huge air!!!!

South Pacific kiteboarding competition graduates to the big league by hosting the final event of the 2009 PKRA World Kiteboarding Tour

The 9th Edition of the Teri Kite Surf Pro 2009 will take place from the 25th to the 29th of November 2009 on Pointe Magnin, Nouméa, New Caledonia, home to the world’s largest enclosed lagoon.

Kiteboarding is one of the fastest growing, highly sought after extreme sports on the planet, and what better place to wrap up this years world tour than one of the most outstanding and remarkable locations of the world.

The combination of strong easterly trade winds mixed with pristine crystal clear and flat-water make for the perfect freestyle riding conditions. The world’s most famous and radical freestyle kiteboarders will dispute the coveted kiteboarding PKRA world title.

Five times world champion Aaron Hadlow is focused on making history yet again by fighting to win his 6th straight world title. Kevin Langeree proved that he is not going down without a fight and is more determined than ever before since his win in Germany. Langeree has his heart and mind set on winning his first PKRA World Title.

These Kings of kiteboarding will have to compete to their maximum potential as they face extremely tough competitors from Youri Zoon, who is stronger than ever, and local hero, Tom Hebert who is one of the best riders in the world.

In the women’s division, Bruna Kajiya will be on schedule to win her first PKRA world tour title, however, the Polish wonder girls, Karolina Winkowska and Joanna (Asia) Litwin, (winner of the Germany event) will make for an extremely tough and unpredictable competition.

In addition to the freestyle competition, a long distance race will be held from the Phare Amedée to Nouméa event site. This is a fun, and highly anticipated race where windsurfing legend and sponsor of the event, Robert Teritehau will be competing.

The Teri Kite Surf Pro 2009 event is organized by the Kiteboarding League of New Caledonia, LVLNC, the private titles sponsors are Teri , Nissan, Orangina, Ramada Plaza and SeaDoo. Special support from: NRJ, Air France, RFO Nouvelle Caledonie, and Total.

That was a serious storm passing by Coco Beach, Playa del Carmen, Mexico, this afternoon!
Start with a perfect Side shore wind, pretty consistent wind, then slowly turned north and....offshore!

Venomous Lionfish Prowls Fragile Caribbean Waters

A maroon-striped marauder with venomous spikes is rapidly multiplying in the Caribbean's warm waters, swallowing native species, stinging divers and generally wreaking havoc on an ecologically delicate region.




The red lionfish, a tropical native of the Indian and Pacific oceans that probably escaped from a Florida fish tank, is showing up everywhere -- from the coasts of Cuba and Hispaniola to Little Cayman's pristine Bloody Bay Wall, one of the region's prime destinations for divers.

Wherever it appears, the adaptable predator corners fish and crustaceans up to half its size with its billowy fins and sucks them down in one violent gulp.

Research teams observed one lionfish eating 20 small fish in less than 30 minutes.

"This may very well become the most devastating marine invasion in history," said Mark Hixon, an Oregon State University marine ecology expert who compared lionfish to a plague of locusts. "There is probably no way to stop the invasion completely."

A white creature with maroon stripes, the red lionfish has the face of an alien and the ribbony look of something that survived a paper shredder -- with poisonous spikes along its spine to ward off enemies.

The invasion is similar to that of other aquarium escapees such as walking catfish and caulerpa, a fast-growing form of algae known as "killer seaweed" for its ability to crowd out native plants. The catfish are now common in South Florida, where they threaten smaller fish in wetlands and fish farms.

In Africa, the Nile Perch rendered more than 200 fish species extinct when it was introduced into Lake Victoria. The World Conservation Union calls it one of the 100 worst alien species invasions.

Kite-Extreme Brazil moves to November
Sep-03-2009 The renowned PKRA KiteExtreme Brazil Freestyle event dates have being moved, from October 14 - 18 to November 11 – 15th (formerly Mexico’s dates). The exact location will be determined between Luis Correia in the state of Piaui, and Taiba in the state of Ceara, on September 12th.

Also Brazil has already confirmed the 2010 PKRA racing and freestyle events will be held together in Barra Do Cunhaú- RN, Brazil; The amazing location of the 2009 PKRA Kiteracing Brazil event, which took place two weeks ago. The local Government has expressed their commitment to host a bigger better event and have signed up for 2010.

On the down side of the news, due to the extremely difficult situation this year with the worlds economic, the PKRA Freestyle Mexico Event has being cancelled. The organizers were not able to get the necessary support to bring the event forward. However things are looking much better for 2010, with new and exciting locations for the 2010 tour.

Hope all is ok in Play and in surroundings and the "Swine flu" is not causing too much damage :) I would like to thank you for all the good trainng that you provided to me and Julius in April at Playa. Last week I was able to go out and try it out in Normandy .. Close to Wissant. There were about 100 windsurfers and kitesurfers in the windy sea. Great fun… but for me a bit rough because the waves were about 2,5 meters… so my waterstart did not yet work. Here are some pictures from April
