PDCK Instructor become WAINMAN HAWAII Team Rider!!

We would like to congrat Dylan for being now part of the WAINMAN HAWAII Team, here is a little about him:

Please present yourself, tell us a bit about you?

My name is Dylan Shewfelt. I was born in Canada on November 28th in 1991. I was relocated to Mexico at the age of nine. Started snowboarding in Canada when i was 4 and later continued in Colorado throughout high-school. In 2009 i moved back to Mexico and having a lack of snow I had to look for something else then snowboarding to keep myself challenged. Thats how I came to discover and practice kiteboarding in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

How and when did you get involved in the Kiteboarding industry?

After my first beginner lesson the kiteschool offered me a job, which I was more than happy to take. I could easily say that I didnt leave the beach since then. Even the thought of missing out on some wind makes me nervous. From the beginning my passion for kiting overgrew everything and felt more than natural to live that lifestyle day-by-day. Since then I teach and train during the winter seasons in Playa del Carmen with PDC Kiteboarding School( www.pdckiteboarding.com) at the Sandos Playacar Resort and discover new spots around the world in the off-season. Making sure that I kite as much as my body can take and a little bit more...

What are your last accomplishments?

In the last 3 years i have been improving a lot and receiving compliments for my riding and style on the water.
I also had the opportunity to participate in the Freestyle competition of the PKRA 2012 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Recently becoming a Team Rider for Wainman Hawaii( www.wainmanhawaii.com) and Mobekitewear, and i thank them for believing and supporting me.

Day 1 - Kite Masters 2009

Praia de Alvor (25 July 2009) – The much anticipated start of the prestigious Kite Masters World Tour 2009 kicks off with a thrilling display of speed and power courtesy of the PKRA racers who participated in the third annual Kiteboard Course Racing World Tour 2009. Perfect weather conditions greeted the crowd at the beach along with the athletes although the much sought-after wind which fuels the games arrived later during the race. After a long period of waiting, the event got underway at approximately 2:00 pm and was participated by the crème de la crème of kiteboard racing.
The wind was particular light during the first two races but gradually picked up after the 45-minute break for the third and final race of the day which concluded at 5:00 pm. The first race of the day lasted approximately 23 minutes and progressively got faster with the final race only taking 17 minutes. Most of the competitors started on their largest kites (15m / 16m for the men) but eventually switched down one size for the final race. Bringing the crowd on their feet and leading the race after day one is Cabrinha’s Bruno Sroka (FRA) who is making a comeback after taking a break from last year’s racing events. The French racer dominated all three races with convincing wins. It was apparent that Sroka have been busy training and has worked very hard on his board and speed during the off-season. Unfortunately, last year’s champion Charles Deleau (North, FRA) is racing on borrowed gear due to lost luggage. The French rider is hoping to get his gear later today so he can climb his way back up to the top to defend his world championship title against Sroka who was World Champion in 2007. Meanwhile, American Jesse Richman, another Cabrinha rider is currently in second place while North’s Sean Farley (MEX) completes the top three. On the women’s side, Steph Bridge (GBR) of North Kiteboarding once again dominated all three races and even beating many of the men, since both men and women started at the same time. Fabienne D’Ortoli (FRA) riding with a Naish kites ranked second overall after day one followed by Kari Schivebaag (NOR) of Ozone. After the races, the competition switched over to the Kite Masters freestyle events where 12 men’s heats and 4 ladies heats were completed. In the men's division within group 1 Sebastian Garat (RRD, FRA) currently has 4 points while Abel Lago has 2 points. In group 2 Michael Schithofer (Naish, AUS) and Jesse Richman (Cabrinha, USA) each has 1 point while Danilo Nacarato has 2 points. In group 3 both Alberto Rondina (Cabrinha, ITA) and Gonçalo Gomes each has 2 points and finally in group 4 both Kevin Langeree (Naish, NLD) and Charles Deleau (North, FRA) each has 2 points. Over in the women's heats within group 1 Karolina Winkoska (Naish, POL) and Marilou Lavale each has 2 points as is the same situation in group 2 with both Jalou Langeree (Naish, NLD) and Steph Bridge (North, GBR) each having 2 points. The day’s event concluded at around 7:00 pm while tomorrow's rider meeting is set for 1:00 pm and first possible start at 1:30 pm local time. Presented by The Gest Group under the leadership of Director General Erich Steffen and Event Coordinator Eduardo Piloni, these premium kiteboarding events will run from June 24 – 28, 2009 at Praia de Alvor, Portimao. These events will be hosted by the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association (PKRA) – the globally recognized professional kiteboarding organization.

PKRA Kiteboarding Grand Slam celebrates 8th straight year in Fuerteventura

For eight years in a row, the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association (PKRA) – the world’s leading professional kiteboarding organization – is bringing the events back to Fuerteventura soil. The event dubbed “Fuerteventura PKRA Kiteboarding Grand Slam 2009,” will be a five-day event of extreme kiteboarding action. The highlights will include Freestyle and Kite-Loop Competition to be participated in by professional riders from more than 18 different countries. Organized by Pro Center René Egli through its owner René Egli, featuring €33,000 in total prize money, the Fuerteventura event is well-known as the most extreme PKRA Kiteboarding World Tour event be cause of guaranteed strong winds.
The kick-off games will start on July 17, 2009 with the Inscription & the Welcome Party and will run until July 22. Expect to see some of the best freestyle kiteboarders live in action performing their biggest jumps and difficult tricks, push ing themselves in the extreme conditions. In addition to the freestyle this year will feature a kite-loop competition which guarantee spectacular extremely high jumps as the riders get that extra lift created as they loop their kite while in mid-air.
The venue will be Playa Sotavento, without a doubt the best beach in Fuerteventura and a paradise of immense ecological prosperity. The area abounds with sunny weather condition and strong winds blowing at an average of 18 to 35 knots. These, combined with an average water temperature of 22 degrees Celsius (71.6 degrees Fahrenheit) and a general wind direction of side offshore to side shore makes the beaches of Sotavento a perfect and spectacular setting for the PKRA Grand Slam event.
Reigning Fuerteventura men’s freestyle champion Aaron Hadlow (Flexifoil, GBR), who also won the title here in 2006 is the top favorite, while top challengers Kevin Langeree (Naish, NED) and Sebas- tien Garat (RRD, FRA - who won second place last year) may give Hadlow a run for his money.
In the women’s division, 3-time Fuerteventura champion Gisela Pulido (Slingshot, ESP) is the favored rider to win this year but with the likes of Bruna Kajiya (Best, BRA) and Susi Mai (Cabrinha, GER) at the helm, the young Spaniard would have to push herself to the limit once again to retain the title.
The Fuerteventura PKRA Kiteboarding Grand Slam is organized and presented by Pro Center René Egli in cooperation with the townhall of the municipality of Pájara, the government of Fuerteventura & the Canary Islands, and through the sponsors Hotel Meliã Gorriones, Tropical, Cabrinha and Neil Pryde.

Cabarete 2009

Jun-05-2009
The Dominican Republic Cabarete event, has been has being a classic PKRA World Tour event over the last 7 years. This great location know as the Caribbean Kiteboarding Mecca, has hosted many years the highest standard Kiteboarding event in the world where the absolute best in the world have competed. Unfortunately in 2009 the economic world crisis has hit the Dominican Republic very hard and the event this year is not able to support the High Standards of the PKRA World Tour. Over the last few weeks the event organizer, the rider’s committee and the PKRA managing body have being discussing, different options to deal with the crisis and adjust the event to the current economic situation.
However the options have not being feasible since they would greatly compromise the high standards of the PKRA World Tour establish by the best riders in the world, and make the event something far away from a World Championship event. Therefore the decision was to call off the 2009 event, and wait for better times and organize the official “Cabarete World Cup” as a high standard kiteboarding event in 2010.
The next official PKRA event will be the Course Racing event at the Portimao Kite Masters, and the next official freestyle PKRA event of the year will be the Fuerteventura PKRA Kiteboarding Grand Slam 2009. Notice of race coming soon. 100% confirmed.

PKRA World Tour Schedule Changes.

Zoon Youri

In the last few weeks there has been as series of worldwide events that have affected the PKRA 2009 World Tour Schedule. Due to the worldwide economic crises, the PKRA Tarifa event was not able to get the necessary budget to host the PKRA World Cup, and they have gone another route. As of today the Tarifa 2009 event has been cancelled. We are confident, that as early as 2010, as soon as the economy recovers PKRA will be back to this popular location. The swine flu epidemic is also affecting PKRA, since the authorities and sponsors of the Cabarete event, in the Dominican Republic are reluctant to schedule any type of events until this epidemic crisis subsides. Therefore to give more time for this to happen the organizer has decided to postpone the event to the dates that have open by the cancelation of the Tarifa Event. So the new dates for Cabarete 2009 are July 1st – 5th 2009. This event has already all the necessary support to take place, and the only factor that will be affecting its realization is how the swine flu epidemic develops on the next couple weeks. There will be constant updates on the PKRA website about it. On a final note, the next PKRA World Tour event on the calendar will be the Kite-Masters Portimao event in Portugal. June 24 – 28. 2009. Press release and information about the event to be out next week.
